The Windham Path is more than a trail — it’s a living corridor for nature, recreation, and community connection. This site celebrates the path’s success, shares updates about its future, and honors those who have cared for it since its creation.
Our goal is simple: to ensure The Windham Path remains beautiful, accessible, and well-maintained for generations to come — with the continued leadership and stewardship of the Town of Windham.
The Windham Path was established as a shared community resource — a place where residents and visitors can enjoy walking, biking, and quiet reflection amid the natural beauty of the Catskills. Since its opening, it has become one of Windham’s most cherished amenities, blending scenic access, wildlife preservation, and public recreation in perfect balance.
The Town of Windham Board and the Town Highway Department have done an exceptional job maintaining The Windham Path. From mowing and trail repair to sign upkeep and safety improvements, their dedication ensures the path remains one of the most well-kept and welcoming public spaces in the region.
Their hands-on care, local knowledge, and consistent attention to detail demonstrate a deep understanding of what the path means to this community. The hope — and strong community sentiment — is that the Town Board and Highway Department continue in this role for years to come. They are uniquely qualified to preserve the trail’s integrity, character, and safety.
The Windham Path follows a design philosophy centered on low impact, high value recreation — emphasizing accessibility, aesthetics, and environmental protection. Its simple but effective layout provides a safe and scenic experience for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and families alike.
Under the care of the Town Highway Department, the trail has remained in outstanding condition through all seasons. Routine mowing, drainage management, and trail surface upkeep have kept it resilient against weather and heavy use. The department’s responsiveness to maintenance needs has been a model of municipal stewardship.
This public works partnership — between town leadership, local volunteers, and residents — represents one of Windham’s finest examples of collaboration in action.
We welcome your four-legged companions! For the safety and enjoyment of all visitors and the protection of the local wildlife, please remember that a leash is required for all dogs joining you on the Windham Path.
The main trailhead and parking area is conveniently located off Route 23 just outside the village of Windham.
For an alternative start, you can find an additional parking lot on Route 296 near the intersection of South Street. A scenic third-of-a-mile trail connector links the two pathways, allowing you to easily enjoy the entire area.
We hope to see you out on the trail soon!
